Ban on Selling Herbal Medicines at Herbal Shops
Roshank Moghari-Nejad, President of the Iranian Traditional Medicine Association, stated:
The sale of herbal medicines and entering the realm of treatment at herbal shops is prohibited; only pharmacies are authorized to dispense these medicines. Since herbal shops play a role in preserving the heritage of plants, it is essential to regulate and formalize their operations. They are only permitted to sell herbs and should not interfere in the treatment domain.
A regulation for the sale of herbal medicines has been drafted but has not yet been implemented. Traditional medicine has both potential and actual capacities that have not been fully utilized in our country, whereas globally, traditional and complementary medicine are part of the World Health Organization’s strategies to be used within health systems.
