General Description
Codeine monohydrate is an opioid. Codeine is derived from the poppy plant Papaver somniferum oliferra (Papaveraceae). It is used as a central analgesic, sedative, hypnotic, antinociceptive, and antiperistaltic agent, and is also recommended for persistent dry coughing. Codeine monohydrate serves as an intermediate in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
