General Description<\/span><\/h3>\n

Empagliflozin is a medication used in the management and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works in the kidneys to prevent the absorption of glucose in order to lower blood sugar levels. It is not useful for insulin-dependent or type 1 diabetes. It is also used in adults with heart failure to reduce the risk of hospitalization and death due to heart disease. It belongs to a class of medications called sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors.<\/p>\n
